These cute shorts were made from a free downloadable pattern. This is my wearable toile. However the site I got them from seems to have completely disappeared and I can't even remember the name of the site - It's not on the pattern anywhere. It was a Spanish language site and I seem to think it was South American - anyway all that being said I had a pattern for a cute pair of basic summer shorts. - If you know any more do let me know!
Positives of the pattern: It's drafted really well, seam allowances are included as are suggested fabrics. It was a PDF, but being shorts I think it was a total of 16 pages - so not many to print.
Negatives: There is no size guide! This pattern comes with very few markings and notches to help you match things and the instructions are almost non existant. The instruction document was 3 pages long. Page one was just a title page and image of the shorts, page two was a tech spec sheet and page 3 was the PDF layout.
The tech sheet has all the information for construction the shorts, but no details are given. It's taken that you know how to sew and is clearly aimed at industry in the style and detail.
That said, I know how to sew and the order of construction is easy. I used some charcoal stretch twill, that I had left from another project. there was just enough to squeeze these shorts out of it. They are super short so I added two inches to the length.
I have had these sitting for at least two weeks waiting for a button and buttonhole, as I just couldn't be bothered to swap machines to do it.
I cut a straight size 40 after measuring the pattern and comparing the measurements to mine. It fit pretty well without any fitting changes - although I might consider adding a little bit to the back rise as it sits quite low on me and scooping out the centre back seam as there is some odd shaping there - but that could be just down to the stretch of the fabric.
The pocket bags are cut as one and folded. Facing pieces are provided so that you can use a contrast for the pocket bag. It's easy to make, but I really prefer my pockets bags to go right to the centre front and be caught in the zipper or CF seam. you can see this a toile as I've just left the light colour on my overlocker - how lazy am I?
The zip went in really easily and despite being way off in colour it's well hidden. I didn't follow any particular instructions here, just my own method.
This would look super cute in a stretch floral, or a linen and I think it might just get made again for myself and my daughter for holiday wear.
I really would like to give credit to the designer of this, but I just can't find them - It's so annoying!
